SEED THE CHANGE is on a mission ...

Our activities align with our strategic focus; working with others to establish the infrastructure for a sustainable, equitable and joyous world.

We invest in connections between our focus areas, specific projects and our platform to help create and strengthen a sustainable ecosystem of initiatives.

We are establishing a portfolio of positively-screened investments, including an allocation to Programme Related Investments, so that both our balance sheet and our distributions are in service to our mission.

We are very seriously concerned at the degradation of our shared natural world, the rate of species extinction and the lack of global leadership. Unsustainable resource use and the privatisation of the global commons by the few has taken us to a very dangerous place. We believe it’s time for an urgent course correction through fossil fuel divestment, environmental restoration and an immediate transition to a regenerative economics. Like, now!

We are committed to removing barriers to human wellbeing and full participation in society. In a resource-rich, technologically-advanced world there is no reason why anyone should be denied the opportunity to reach their potential. Our work includes advancing indigenous rights, increasing access to healthcare and increasing access to equal opportunities free from discrimination.

We believe that it is as important to nurture and celebrate our shared humanity as it is to address today’s existential threats. Our innate capacity for artistic expression allows us to explore our creativity and radical interdependence. Ours is a human journey and we must continue to invest in, and value, our ever-evolving narratives and our understanding of meaning and contribution.

Our Theory of Change

We are aware that mighty and productive oak trees begin life as small and unproven acorns.

And we notice that the majority of those with financial capital - philanthropists and equity investors alike - are very reluctant to take on very early-stage risk.

And we know that truly transformative change requires a break with the ‘safe’ and ‘known’ and ‘proven’ status quo; involving ideas that are genuinely novel, unknown and untested.

And we still remember that all of us who have and enjoy the privilege of experience and position and influence achieved that status because one or more people gave us opportunities to explore and try and stumble and learn and eventually master and succeed at our endeavours.

Seed The Change | He Kākano Hāpai is interested in working with those prepared to ignore reasonableness and convention, those who have the courage to attempt the outrageously ambitious and unapologetically bold in service to a more beautiful world.

While we don’t have a lot of financial capacity, we can provide shelter and sustenance to germinating seeds while they get their roots down and their heads up into the sunlight of recognition by others.
